  The solar receivers are characterized by a very high construction technology which combines various materials, such as glass and steel, and spectrally selective nano-composite coatings. With such coatings, CERMET, and high vacuum technology, ASE's receivers maximize the absorption of solar radiation while minimizing the emissivity, ensuring a very high conversion factor, from solar energy into thermal energy.

In detail, a solar receiver consists of an inner tube, in which the heat transfer fluid flows, made of Austenitic stainless steel and selected to optimize the corrosion resistance against different types of fluid used in the thermodynamic plants.

The outer surface of the steel tube is coated by a thin multilayer film, consisting of a top layer of ceramic material with high anti-reflective power; an intermediate layer of CERMET, sophisticated nano-composite material, with a high absorption coefficient for solar radiation, and a lower layer of metallic material capable of reflecting infrared radiation.

In order to achieve a high vacuum cavity, to avoid convective heat losses, the steel tube is enclosed in an outer tube, made of borosilicate glass, provided of an anti-reflective coating on both the inner and outer surfaces. The technology of the protective casing is then completed by subjecting the outer surface to a hydrophobic treatment, able to increase the resistance of the anti-reflective coating to atmospheric agents.

At the ends of the receivers, finally, are two metal bellows, suitably installed to compensate for differential thermal expansion between glass and steel, ensuring optimum operation of the receiver on the solar collector.
